A quiet Northern Territory morning was shattered by tragedy as police discovered the body of a 31-year-old woman in the yard of a residential property in what appears to be a devastating hit-and-run incident.
The grim discovery was made shortly after 7am on Tuesday when Northern Territory Police responded to concerns about a person lying unconscious in the yard of a home in the rural area of Darwin.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Hoad Street, but despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the location.
