A major murder investigation has been launched by Scotland Yard after a wealthy architect was found bludgeoned to death in his exclusive Westminster flat.
The body of the victim, a man in his 60s described as a respected figure in the architectural world, was discovered with significant head injuries on Monday afternoon. Police and paramedics were called to the multi-million-pound apartment on Ashley Gardens, a prestigious address close to the Houses of Parliament, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Prestigious Address Turned Crime Scene
The property, located on the fifth floor of a grand Edwardian mansion block, is now a sealed-off forensic crime scene. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Command are leading the inquiry, treating the death as suspicious.
Forensic teams have been meticulously examining the flat for evidence, while officers are conducting door-to-door enquiries in the area. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place to establish the exact cause of death.
Shock and Mourning in the Community
Neighbours and colleagues have been left shocked by the brutal killing. The victim was reportedly a well-known and successful architect who had worked on high-profile projects.
"He was a lovely man, very quiet and kept himself to himself," one neighbour told reporters. "It's absolutely terrifying that something like this could happen here. The whole building is in a state of shock."
Police are currently working to inform the man's next of kin and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. No arrests have been made at this early stage of the investigation.
