More than 100 calls were made to emergency services after a huge fire broke out near Walthamstow train station on Sunday evening. Twenty-five fire engines and around 125 firefighters were dispatched to the scene near Vallentin Road and Shernall Street in north London at around 6:30pm on July 12.
Fire Spread to Homes and Gardens
The blaze affected one house, multiple gardens and sheds, as well as a railway embankment. The London Fire Brigade reported that the first of over 100 calls was received at 6:27pm, and control officers mobilised crews from Tottenham, Bethnal Green, Walthamstow, Chingford, and surrounding fire stations.
A 32-metre turntable ladder was deployed as a water tower to help extinguish the flames from above. The Brigade's drone team also attended, providing the incident commander with greater situational awareness.
Public Urged to Close Windows
Residents in the area were advised to close their windows and doors due to the smoke. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. The London Fire Brigade stated: 'The Brigade received the first of over 100 calls at 1827 and Control Officers have mobilised crews from Tottenham, Bethnal Green, Walthamstow, Chingford and surrounding fire stations to the scene.'
This is a breaking story with more details to follow as they emerge.
