Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to locate and extinguish the fire, which involved the ground floor. The blaze was brought under control and extinguished at 9.06pm.

Police have closed off the road to traffic, and Beaufort Drive remains cordoned off as investigation work is ongoing. A strong smell of smoke remains in the air at the scene.

Investigation underway

Fire investigators are taking photographs of the house from inside the cordon. At this early stage, the investigation is being supported by Merseyside Police.

People have been urged to avoid the area while the investigation continues. The house has been completely destroyed, leaving only a shell, with firefighters having just finished extinguishing the blaze.
