A serene afternoon in the iconic Blue Mountains was violently disrupted today following a horrific stabbing incident that left three people fighting for their lives.
The attack unfolded in the heart of Leura, a town renowned for its stunning gardens and tranquil atmosphere, now the scene of a major police investigation.
Chaos on the Great Western Highway
Emergency services received multiple frantic calls just after 3:15 PM, reporting a violent altercation on the Great Western Highway. Police, ambulance crews, and NSW Air Force personnel descended upon the area, cordoning off a significant section of the main road.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos and confusion as first responders worked desperately to treat the victims at the scene.
Victims Rushed to Hospital
Two men, both believed to be in their 30s, and a woman sustained critical stab wounds during the incident. Paramedics from NSW Ambulance provided immediate emergency care before rushing all three patients to Westmead Hospital under police escort.
Medical sources have confirmed all three victims are currently undergoing surgery for their injuries. Their conditions remain critical but stable.
Major Police Investigation Underway
A large-scale crime scene has been established as detectives from Blue Mountains Police Area Command work to piece together the events that led to the brutal attack.
"A crime scene has been established, which is being forensically examined by specialist police," a NSW Police spokesperson confirmed. While no arrests have been made at this early stage, investigators are following several active lines of enquiry.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, and police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area to come forward immediately.
The Great Western Highway remains closed in both directions between Megalong Street and the Mall, causing significant traffic disruptions throughout the Blue Mountains region. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
