Tragic Crash Kills Girl, 5; Twin Brother Injured

A five-year-old girl has tragically died following a half-term car crash in which her twin brother was also seriously injured, her grandfather has confirmed. Alana Moscrop passed away in hospital five days after the collision on the A59 in Gisburn, Lancashire, which occurred last Thursday.

Details of the Crash

It is believed that Alana’s grandmother was driving the children in a Skoda Karoq when it collided with a VW Golf R in a remote rural location. Emergency services arrived at the scene at approximately 3:55 pm. The driver of the VW Golf, a man in his 20s, also sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized. Police are treating him as a witness in the ongoing investigation.

Family's Heartbreak

Alana’s grandfather, Dave Moscrop, shared the heartbreaking news in a Facebook tribute. He wrote: 'Unfortunately Alana is no longer with us following a tragic accident a few days ago. Prayers to give strength to all those family and friends affected. Thanks and much appreciation to all the emergency services, hospital staff involved. God bless.'

Police Investigation

Lancashire Police stated that the family’s Skoda was traveling westbound when it struck the VW. A police spokesperson said: 'All our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this very distressing time, and they are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. We must stress that the investigation into the collision is ongoing, and it is still in its early stages in determining exactly what happened.'

Officers are appealing for any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to come forward. The spokesperson added: 'We ask you to please refrain from speculating about what happened. The investigation will determine this and speculative comments around what might have happened can be very distressing for the family of the little girl.'
