Tokyo police hunt world champion sprinter Christian Coleman

Tokyo Metropolitan Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of world champion sprinter Christian Coleman, following allegations the American athlete fled the scene of a traffic accident.

The 100m world record holder is accused of being involved in a collision in the Japanese capital before leaving the country. Police are seeking Coleman on suspicion of violating Japan's Road Traffic Act.

Champion Sprinter Denies Allegations

Coleman, who won the 100m world title in Budapest last year, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing through his management team. The incident allegedly occurred while the athlete was in Tokyo for a track meet.

According to Japanese authorities, the sprinter was driving a rental car that struck another vehicle. Police claim Coleman subsequently left Japan without reporting the incident to local authorities.

Legal Proceedings Complicated by International Travel

The case took a complex turn when Coleman departed Japan before a scheduled court hearing. Tokyo police confirmed they are now working through international channels to address the situation.

Coleman's management team stated: "Christian maintains his innocence regarding these allegations. We are cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities to resolve this matter promptly."

Not the First Controversy for Track Star

This isn't the first time the 28-year-old sprinter has faced controversy. Coleman previously served an 18-month ban for missing three drug tests in 2019, though the ban was later reduced on appeal.

The current allegations come at a sensitive time for the athlete, who recently regained his status as one of track and field's premier sprinters with his world championship victory.

Japanese authorities have declined to provide additional details while the investigation continues, but confirmed they are pursuing all legal avenues regarding the case.
