Three men who called themselves 'The Three Musketeers' have been handed lengthy prison sentences totalling 43 years after subjecting a Good Samaritan to a horrific attack in his own home.

The victim, a 41-year-old man, had kindly offered the group shelter at his property in Huyton, Merseyside. However, his act of generosity was repaid with extreme violence when the trio turned on him in a sustained and brutal assault.

Liverpool Crown Court heard how the attackers:

  • Punched and kicked the victim repeatedly
  • Used weapons including a hammer and knife during the assault
  • Left the victim with life-changing injuries including a fractured skull

Sentencing and Police Reaction

Judge David Aubrey KC described the attack as 'savage and sustained', sentencing the perpetrators as follows:

  • Anthony Speed, 30: 18 years imprisonment
  • John Paul Speed, 32: 15 years imprisonment
  • Thomas Speed, 26: 10 years imprisonment

Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald of Merseyside Police welcomed the sentences, stating: 'This was a horrific attack on a man who had shown these individuals nothing but kindness. The substantial prison terms reflect the gravity of their actions.'
