In a case that has sent shockwaves through Greater Manchester, a 17-year-old boy accused of murdering and dismembering a teenage girl inside an electric vehicle has been released from custody under strict conditions.
The suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Manchester Crown Court via videolink from a secure location. Prosecutors revealed the grim discovery of body parts belonging to 19-year-old Mee Ken Chong, whose remains were found at two separate locations in Salford and Worsley.
The Gruesome Discovery
According to court documents, the victim was last seen alive on August 2nd. The investigation took a macabre turn when human remains were discovered by a member of the public in a wooded area near Salford on August 5th. Further searches led police to additional body parts in Worsley on August 10th.
Detective Chief Inspector Gina Brennand of Greater Manchester Police described the findings as "among the most disturbing scenes officers have encountered in recent years."
Tesla Connection Revealed
Prosecutor Michael Blakey disclosed that the alleged murder occurred inside a Tesla vehicle, though specific details about how the crime was committed remain under investigation. The electric car has been seized as crucial evidence and is undergoing forensic examination.
Police are investigating whether the vehicle's advanced technology, including its internal cameras and data recording systems, may provide crucial evidence about what transpired.
Family's Agony and Legal Proceedings
The victim's family, who reside in Salford, have been informed of the developments. A family spokesperson described Mee Ken Chong as "a bright young woman with her whole life ahead of her."
Despite the severity of the charges, the judge granted the defendant's release to a family member's address with stringent conditions including:
- 24-hour electronic tagging and curfew
- Surrender of all passports and travel documents
- Strict prohibition from contacting witnesses or visiting specific locations
- Regular reporting to a designated police station
The case has been adjourned until October 11th, when a plea hearing is scheduled. Due to the suspect's age and the nature of the allegations, the proceedings are being handled under special measures designed for youth defendants.
Greater Manchester Police continue to appeal for anyone with information about the case to come forward as their investigation intensifies.
