Tennessee Graduation Ruined by Fights, 11 Arrested
Tennessee Graduation Fights Lead to 11 Arrests

A high school graduation ceremony in Tennessee was marred by violence as multiple fights broke out, resulting in nearly a dozen arrests. The incident occurred at Ripley High School's ceremony on May 14, according to the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office.

Officials confirmed on Thursday that most of those involved in the brawl are now in custody, with the majority of suspects having turned themselves in. Seven men, three juveniles, and one woman have been charged in connection with the disturbance.

Authorities expressed their disappointment in a stern Facebook statement following the melee. 'Tonight should have been one of the proudest moments in the lives of many young men and women in our community,' the statement read. 'Instead, what should have been a celebration of hard work, dedication, and achievement at Ripley High School was disrupted by the selfish and disgraceful actions of a group of individuals who chose to engage in multiple fights during the graduation ceremony.'

The sheriff's office emphasized that the graduates had worked for years to earn their diplomas, and their families had come to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime achievement. 'It is a shame that a handful of cowardly individuals chose to rob them of a moment they had earned through years of effort and perseverance,' officials added.

Video footage from the ceremony captured a chaotic scene, with chairs scattered across the school's gymnasium as both family members and students appeared to participate in the fights. The person recording can be heard saying, 'You can't even have a f****** graduation.'

However, school superintendent Selina Sparkman stated that the fight was instigated by adults, not students. 'I don't want to be mistaken and for anybody to think that our children did this,' Sparkman said. 'Once again, they did an amazing job.'

Following the arrests, the sheriff's office issued a statement directly addressing the graduates: 'To the graduates and their families, we cannot restore the moment that was taken from you, but we can assure you that those responsible have been held accountable. My sincere hope is that our efforts provide some sense of closure and a clear message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated in Lauderdale County.'

A strict 10 p.m. curfew was enforced on the day of the incident. Those arrested include Kenteavious Washington, Charlie Rogers, Nygel Lattimore, Damien Lattimore, Za’Darius Smith, Jordan Bonds, Devontae Robertson, Stephanie Scott, and three juveniles identified as K.M., D.J., and Z.S. Charges include inciting a riot, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
