A young university student's life has been tragically cut short following a fatal stabbing in Southampton, prompting a murder investigation and charges.
Details of the Fatal Incident
Henry Nowak, an 18-year-old accountancy and finance student at the University of Southampton, was killed on Belmont Road in the Portswood area. The attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning as he was returning home from a night out. He had been celebrating the end of his first semester with new friends from his university football team.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but despite their efforts, Henry died from his injuries. He had sustained a puncture wound to his chest and two wounds to the back of his leg.
Charges and Police Investigation
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that Vickrum Digwa, aged 22, of St Denys Road, Southampton, has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place. A second individual, Kiran Kaur, 52, also of St Denys Road, has been charged with assisting an offender.
Both are scheduled to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court. The investigation remains active, with police following several lines of enquiry. A 51-year-old man initially arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on police bail. A 26-year-old man was also arrested and released on bail, but in relation to suspicions of assisting an offender and a public order offence.
A Family's Heartbreaking Tribute
In an emotional statement, Henry Nowak's family described their profound loss. They remembered him as a 'kind, intelligent and talented' young man who had excelled in his A-levels and was fully embracing university life.
'He was an incredible son, brother, cousin, grandson, nephew, friend and teammate. He was an all-round top lad,' they said. The family spoke of their pride in his achievements and the bright future that was stolen from him, stating their world would never be the same.
Henry, originally from Chafford Hundred in Essex, was balancing his studies with part-time work at a local Morrisons supermarket and his passion for football, having joined two teams since starting university.
