A 22-year-old man has been charged with the murder of an 18-year-old student who was stabbed to death during a night out in Southampton. Henry Nowak, from Chafford Hundred in Essex, suffered a puncture wound to his chest and two wounds to the back of his leg after an altercation in Belmont Road, Portswood, on Wednesday.
Police were called to the scene, where Mr Nowak was pronounced dead. Vickrum Digwa, of St Denys Road, Southampton, has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place. Kiran Kaur, 52, also of St Denys Road, has been charged with assisting an offender. Both are due to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Mr Nowak was a first-year accountancy and finance student at Southampton University. His family described him as a “kind, intelligent, and talented son” who had joined two football teams and worked part-time at a local supermarket. They said he was celebrating the end of his first semester with teammates when he was killed.
Hampshire Police have released a 51-year-old man on bail pending further enquiries, while a 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released with no further action for that offence but remains on bail for assisting an offender and a public order offence.
