A teenage boy has died following a two-vehicle collision on the A37 Wells Road in Bristol that occurred after a brief police pursuit. A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The crash happened shortly after 4am on Sunday, 25 October. It involved a white Nissan Juke and a black Audi S3, both driven by members of the public, according to police. The incident followed a short pursuit involving an unmarked police car and the white Nissan.
Victim and Injuries
The teenage boy, who was a passenger in the Nissan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening: two teenage passengers from the Nissan and the male driver of the Audi.
The 17-year-old boy was arrested at a residential address on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was taken to hospital for a medical assessment, later discharged, and remains in police custody.
Police Investigation and Referral
Specialist officers have informed the family of the deceased boy and are providing support. Avon and Somerset Police's Professional Standards Unit has been notified, and a mandatory referral has been submitted to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because the death occurred following police contact.
The investigation is ongoing. Pending any decision by the IOPC, the inquiry is being led by a detective inspector from the force's Major Crime Investigation Team.
