Residents and patrons of the Peregian Beach Village were instructed to immediately seek shelter as heavily armed officers, including the specialist Critical Incident Response Team, descended on the area. The urgent lockdown was announced just after 3:30 PM on Tuesday, with police responding to reports of a firearm discharge.
An intensive search is currently focused on surrounding bushland, with police urging the public to avoid the area entirely. A police spokesperson confirmed the operation, stating, "Police are currently responding to reports of a firearm discharge in the area... There is no ongoing threat to the community, however police are urging members of the public to avoid the area."
Local businesses were forced to close their doors abruptly, with customers and staff told to remain inside for their own safety. The sound of police helicopters circling overhead has become a constant presence as the manhunt intensifies.
