A 41-year-old man from Suffolk has been handed a 14-year prison sentence after a vicious assault on a woman in Ipswich left her with severe, life-altering injuries.

Daniel McEwan, of no fixed abode, was convicted at Ipswich Crown Court following the attack, which took place in October 2022. The court heard how McEwan subjected the victim to a sustained and brutal assault, causing significant harm.

Details of the Attack

The prosecution detailed how McEwan's actions were premeditated and carried out with extreme violence. The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries, requiring extensive medical treatment.

Detective Inspector Sarah Johnson of Suffolk Police described the incident as "one of the most horrific cases of violence" she had encountered in her career.

Court Sentencing

Judge Rupert Overbury condemned McEwan's actions, stating that the severity of the attack warranted a lengthy custodial sentence. "This was a sustained and brutal assault that has left the victim with permanent physical and psychological scars," he said.

McEwan was sentenced to 14 years in prison, with an extended licence period of five years upon release. He will also be placed on the violent offenders' register.

Police Response

Suffolk Police praised the bravery of the victim, who supported the investigation throughout. "Her courage has been instrumental in bringing McEwan to justice," said Detective Inspector Johnson.
