A six-year-old boy has tragically passed away after collapsing in a Merseyside town centre. Broad Oak Community Primary School in St Helens has closed today as a mark of respect for the grieving family.
Incident Details
The young boy collapsed on Parr Street in St Helens town centre on Thursday, May 14. Emergency services were called at approximately 4:50 PM. A passer-by performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Despite efforts, the child was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
School and Community Response
Broad Oak Community Primary School expressed being "deeply saddened" by the loss. The headteacher made the difficult decision to close the school on Friday, May 15, to allow the community to mourn. St Helens Council also offered condolences, stating: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of a child at Broad Oak Primary School, and our thoughts are with the family and the wider school community."
Police Investigation
Merseyside Police confirmed the incident and stated that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Enquiries are ongoing. The family is receiving support from authorities.
