Second Boy Dies After Cornwall Multi-Vehicle Crash

A second young victim has tragically died following a multiple-vehicle collision on the A30 in Cornwall, police have confirmed. The five-year-old boy passed away at Bristol Children’s Hospital on Tuesday morning, bringing the total number of fatalities from the crash to two.

Devon and Cornwall Police reported that the incident occurred on 29 May near Connor Downs, Hayle. An eight-year-old child was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman in her 70s remains hospitalized at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth with serious injuries, while another woman in her 40s was treated and later discharged. Police stated that both women and the two children were travelling in the same vehicle.

A local man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He sustained minor injuries and has been released under investigation as inquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Andy Heath of Devon and Cornwall Police expressed his sorrow: “I am saddened to confirm that a second boy has passed away following Friday’s collision on the A30. It is important that the family are given the privacy needed at this difficult time and my thoughts remain with them and others affected by this tragic incident.”

He added: “Investigators continue to support the relatives while we secure the evidence required in this case. I would like to thank those who have responded to our witness appeals this week and ask that any witness who has not yet contacted us or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to please call 101.”
