An intensive search operation is underway in southeast Queensland as emergency services race against time to locate 31-year-old Tara Rawnsley, who vanished during a solo hiking expedition in dense bushland near Jimna.
The alarm was raised on Tuesday afternoon when Ms Rawnsley failed to return from her planned walk in the rugged terrain approximately 140km northwest of Brisbane. Police confirmed she was last seen around midday, sparking immediate concern for her welfare.
Massive Multi-Agency Response
Queensland Police have launched a comprehensive search effort involving multiple specialist teams. The operation includes:
- Police search and rescue specialists
- State Emergency Service volunteers
- Queensland Fire and Emergency Services personnel
- Local land search and rescue units
"We are treating this as a critical incident," a police spokesperson stated. "The terrain is challenging, and weather conditions are a significant factor in our search strategy."
Challenging Search Conditions
The search area encompasses difficult bushland characterized by steep inclines, thick vegetation, and limited access points. Emergency services are utilizing both ground teams and aerial assets to cover the vast territory.

Police are urging anyone who may have seen Tara or has information about her whereabouts to come forward immediately. Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was hiking in the Jimna area on Tuesday.
Ms Rawnsley is described as Caucasian, approximately 170cm tall with a slim build. She was last seen wearing hiking attire appropriate for bushwalking conditions.
Authorities have established a dedicated information line and are coordinating with local community groups to expand the search efforts. The police spokesperson emphasized: "Every piece of information, no matter how small it may seem, could be crucial in bringing Tara home safely."
