Railway Security Guard Sentenced for Sexual Assault on Teenage Girl
Aamar Mohammed, a 35-year-old railway station security guard, has been jailed for three years and eight months after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old schoolgirl at Worcester Shrub Hill station. The disturbing incident occurred while Mohammed was on duty, wearing his high-visibility jacket, which he exploited to gain the victim's trust.
Deceptive Approach and Assault
The court heard how Mohammed, employed as a security guard, initially approached the teenage girl on the platform. He asked about her travel plans and offered assistance, presenting himself as a helpful authority figure. After walking her to the platform where her train was due, he suggested they move into a station office, claiming it was a warm place to wait.
Once inside the office, Mohammed turned off the lights and carried out what prosecutors described as a deplorable sexual assault. The attack was so forceful that it left the victim with visible bruising. She managed to escape and returned to the platform to board her train, at which point Mohammed chillingly waved her off as the service departed.
Investigation and Court Proceedings
The victim reported the assault to her family, who immediately contacted the police. Mohammed was arrested later that evening on November 14, 2021, and charged with two counts of sexual assault. He failed to appear for a subsequent court hearing, leading to his re-arrest at his home in Sandwell, West Midlands, in March 2023.
Following a week-long trial at Worcester Crown Court, Mohammed was found guilty. Prosecutor Holly Sims detailed how he had lured the girl into the office by saying, do you want to go inside as you look cold. The victim, in a police interview played during the trial, recounted seeing Mohammed wave from the platform after the assault, stating, I was on the train and I saw him wave. I didn't do anything back.
Sentencing and Police Response
On January 12, Mohammed was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison. He was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be on the sex offenders register for life. Detective Constable Tim Friend of the British Transport Police commended the victim's bravery, noting that her report was crucial in bringing Mohammed to justice.
DC Friend stated: Aamar Mohammed used his trusted position as a station security guard to prey on a teenage girl and subject her to a deplorable sexual assault. The attack was so forceful it left her with physical injuries and will no doubt have a lasting psychological impact. We will stop at nothing to ensure sexual predators like Mohammed are removed from our communities and put behind bars where they belong.
This case highlights the severe breach of trust by a public-facing employee and underscores the importance of vigilance and reporting in combating sexual offences within transport environments.
