Cheshire Police has issued a stern warning to car culture enthusiasts planning to attend an unauthorised car meet in Warrington, stating that "anyone found flouting the rules of the road will face the consequences of their actions". The advertised event has not been approved by the landowner.
Unauthorised event at Junction Nine Retail Park
The force said it has become aware of a number of social media posts advertising an unauthorised car meet at Junction Nine Retail Park on Saturday, October 24. A force spokesman said: "Despite what prospective attendees may have seen on social media, the meet has not been authorised by the landowner, Cheshire Police or local authority, and previous incidents have caused huge disruption in the local area."
"These meets are known to attract hundreds of people, many in high powered motor vehicles driving dangerously, causing excessive noise and anti-social behaviour, all of which have caused alarm and distress to residents, businesses and legitimate users of the retail park."
Police response and previous incidents
Cheshire Police said they are working closely with a range of partners to prevent the occurrence of anti-social behaviour at the location and will utilise available legislation and anti-social behaviour powers for this purpose. Two recent similar events at the retail park saw numerous vehicles seized and one person arrested.
Sergeant Matt Salmon, of the Northern Problem Solving and Prevention Team, said: "Junction Nine Retail Park is a busy retail park, which is popular with shoppers from across the area, and it is simply not the place for hundreds of motorists to use as their personal racetrack – disregarding not only their own safety but the safety of other road users, pedestrians and any responding police officers or emergency service workers."
Officers to be present throughout the day
Following the reports of the unauthorised car meet occurring on Saturday, October 24 2026, the force has been working closely with management of the retail park. Sergeant Salmon added: "Both uniformed and plain clothed officers will be present in the area throughout the day, actively targeting antisocial behaviour and dangerous driving."
"We do not conduct enforcement operations on our roads to spoil the fun; we do this to prevent serious collisions that can have serious consequences, which Warrington has sadly and tragically experienced in the past. With this in mind, we would like to warn those planning on attending the location that we are aware it is taking place, we will be present and anyone who breaks the law will face the consequences."
