Police have announced plans for another search of the remote property where four-year-old Gus Lamont went missing last year. The boy disappeared from his grandparents' home near Yunta, South Australia, on September 27.
Background of the Disappearance
Initial police reports indicated that Gus had been playing in a pile of sand outside the homestead, owned by his maternal grandparents Josie and Shannon Murray. He appeared to have wandered off at approximately 5:30 PM on AFL grand final day.
Previous Search Efforts
Multiple searches have been conducted under Taskforce Horizon, established in the days following Gus's disappearance. Despite extensive efforts, no trace of the child has been found.
On Tuesday, SA Police announced they would return to the property. A statement read: "Taskforce Horizon members will be searching numerous locations on the property for evidence in the case over the next three days. The searching will be conducted by Major Crime detectives and specialist STAR Group officers."
Reason for Renewed Search
Police explained that the search has resumed to take advantage of opportunities that may have arisen due to recent heavy rains on the property. The wet conditions could potentially reveal new evidence previously obscured.
