Police release CCTV image in hunt for violent train robbery gang

Police have launched a hunt for a violent robbery gang that has been terrorising passengers on trains in south London and Kent. British Transport Police have released a CCTV image of a man believed to be the ringleader of the group, which has struck at least four times in the past three weeks.

Detectives have expressed shock at the level of violence used in the attacks, two of which occurred in daylight. The gang is thought to target passengers travelling alone on the North Kent line.

Detective Constable Marie Jeffery, of British Transport Police's Robbery Squad, said all the incidents had taken place on trains on the North Kent line. She said officers were appealing for information and urged anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image to come forward.
