A 73-year-old man has described the terrifying moment he was set upon by a gang of four thugs during what should have been a peaceful morning walk through a London park. The vicious assault left the pensioner with multiple serious injuries, including a broken arm and extensive bruising.
The Brutal Daylight Attack
The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, was ambushed by the group of youths who demanded his mobile phone and wallet. When he refused to hand over his possessions, the situation escalated dramatically.
"One of them produced a hammer from his jacket and started threatening me," the pensioner recounted. "Before I could react, they pushed me to the ground and began kicking and punching me repeatedly."
Severe Injuries and Recovery
The attack resulted in multiple injuries that required hospital treatment:
- A broken arm from the hammer blow
- Severe bruising across his face and body
- Multiple cuts and abrasions
- Significant psychological trauma
Despite the physical injuries healing, the victim admits the psychological scars run much deeper. "I don't feel safe walking alone anymore," he shared. "The thought that this could happen to anyone in broad daylight is terrifying."
Police Investigation Underway
Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation into the assault and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Officers are conducting door-to-door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
A police spokesperson confirmed: "We are treating this as a serious assault and are following several lines of enquiry. Attacks on vulnerable members of our community will not be tolerated."
Community Response
The local community has expressed shock and outrage at the brutal nature of the attack. Neighbours have described the victim as a "kind and gentle man" who regularly volunteered at local community events.
Local councillors have called for increased police patrols in the area and better lighting in the park where the attack occurred.
