Richard Tillman, brother of late NFL star Pat Tillman, has been arrested after allegedly driving a car into a post office in San Jose, California, early on Sunday, causing the building to catch fire. The incident occurred at a strip mall south of downtown just before 3am, according to the San Jose Police Department. No injuries were reported.
About 50 firefighters took approximately 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze. Photos released by the fire department show a charred vehicle inside the heavily damaged building. NBC Bay Area reported that the suspect identified himself as Pat Tillman's brother to officers at the scene.
Pat Tillman, a San Jose native, was a safety for the Arizona Cardinals who left a multimillion-dollar contract to enlist in the US Army after the September 11 attacks. He was killed in Afghanistan in 2004, initially hailed as a hero, but later revealed to have died from friendly fire, which the Pentagon had covered up.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office inmate locator shows Richard Tillman was booked on Sunday and is being held without bail. ABC News reported that he was booked on suspicion of arson. Federal investigators are also looking into spray-painted words found on the building, including 'viva la me', and claims that the driver livestreamed the crash.
No further details on charges have been released. An email has been sent to the US Postal Inspection Service for additional information.
