An associate of the notorious rap group OneFour has been fatally shot in what police describe as a targeted attack in south-west Sydney. Alai Ahio, 28, was at a home on Arbutus Street in Canley Heights with four other men when at least two attackers armed with guns and knives ambushed them on Tuesday night.
The assailants fled the scene in a white SUV. Ahio was driven to Liverpool Hospital with gunshot wounds shortly before 8.30pm, where he later died. A second man, aged 32, was taken to the same hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.
Shortly after, two other men, aged 23 and 22, presented to nearby Fairfield Hospital with serious injuries and were later transferred to different hospitals. Less than 90 minutes later, a fifth man, 19, arrived at Liverpool Hospital with arm injuries and remains stable.
Police are investigating whether the attack is linked to the Coconut Cartel, a gang fueling Sydney's latest underworld feud. Ahio was previously associated with the Mount Druitt-based group OneFour, according to 2021 court documents.
Two vehicles used to transport the injured have been seized. The Canley Heights home remained a crime scene on Wednesday as detectives and forensic officers gathered evidence. Police are also exploring links between OneFour and the Alameddines crime network.
Superintendent Craig Middleton described the incident as a 'very brazen, violent attack' and assured the community that all available resources are being deployed. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
