The tragic death of a devoted Oklahoma mother has sent shockwaves through her quiet suburban community, with her adoptive teenage son now facing a first-degree murder complaint in connection with her killing.
A Life Cut Short in Cascata Falls
Spring Weems, 47, was found deceased at her $340,000 home in the Cascata Falls neighborhood of Edmond, near Oklahoma City, on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, her remains were discovered in a poly cart bin used for trash collection outside the property.
Violent Altercation Leads to Grisly Discovery
Police were called to the residence on Treviso Trail after reports of a fight involving a weapon between two teenagers, believed to be Weems' adoptive children. As officers intervened, one teen allegedly informed them that the other had killed their mother and placed her body in the outdoor trash container.
Sheriff's deputies conducted a search of the home and located Weems' body. Authorities described her injuries as "suspicious in nature" and "consistent with homicide," though charges have not yet been formally filed. The suspected murderer, whose name and age have not been released, was booked into a juvenile detention center.
A Devoted Mother and Woman of Faith
Weems lived alone with the two teenagers and is understood to have been their sole guardian. She was deeply involved in her children's lives, frequently attending their high school wrestling matches and celebrating their accomplishments on social media.
Her public Facebook posts revealed a woman steadfast in her Christian faith. Just ten days before her death, Weems wrote a review criticizing a Christian food pantry for what she described as poor treatment of a homeless person, calling the incident "absolutely heartbreaking to witness as a Christian."
Messages of Unity and Family Values
In July 2020, amid nationwide protests following the killing of George Floyd, Weems penned a Facebook post emphasizing God's goodness and calling for unity. "Our FATHER wants the same for us, so tomorrow let's reflect on UNITY, as we are ALL brothers and sisters under the same Creator," she wrote, accompanied by a video of a lightning storm.
Weems shared that as a parent she taught her children not to fight and to love each other. Her family were parishioners at the non-denominational evangelical Life Church, with at least one son involved in the church's youth ministry program called Switch.
Community in Shock
The murder has stunned the peaceful Cascata Falls neighborhood, where residents describe it as a family-friendly area with children frequently playing outside. "This is a great neighborhood. Kids are always running around, riding their bikes down the street, and golf carts down the street," one neighbor told local media.
Logan County Undersheriff Troy Dykes confirmed the teenagers involved in the initial fight were aged 16 and 17, noting the investigation remains in preliminary stages. OSBI spokesman Hunter McKee stated authorities are working to find a safe home for Weems' other child.
Investigation Continues
Weems' remains have been transported to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of her death. Property records confirm she was the sole owner of the home where the tragedy occurred.
The Daily Mail has approached Life Church for comment as the community grapples with this devastating loss of a mother known for her faith, family values, and active involvement in her children's lives.
