A tragic incident in Kansas City, Missouri, has claimed the life of a four-year-old boy, Tadens Joseph, who was struck and killed by an Amazon delivery van on May 4. The boy was playing outside his home in a quiet neighborhood when the vehicle, which had just dropped off a package, fatally hit him. The driver allegedly fled the scene, prompting the boy's mother to chase after the van. She reportedly clung to the driver and told her she had killed her son.
Investigation Ongoing
The driver, a woman whose identity has not been released, was taken into custody as a 'subject of interest' but has since been released pending further investigation. Police stated that after conferring with prosecutors, she was released while evidence is gathered. Captain Jacob Becchina of the Kansas City Police Department emphasized that these investigations are complex and can take several weeks to complete.
Amazon's Response
Amazon expressed their deepest sympathies to the family and confirmed they will cooperate fully with the police investigation. The company noted that the delivery driver was not a direct employee but worked for a third-party delivery service, which has been cooperative in the investigation.
Remembering Tadens
Tadens is remembered as a 'carefree' boy who loved school, Spider-Man, and pizza. A school employee described him as a 'refreshing little kid' who always smiled. The employee expressed the difficulty of explaining his absence to his young classmates, noting that he was at school the day before the accident and is now the only one missing from the classroom.
The community mourns the loss of this sweet child, and the investigation continues to determine if charges will be filed against the driver.
