Jordanian Migrant Jailed for Sexual Assault on London Tube: Four Women and Girls Targeted
Migrant jailed for Tube sex assaults on four females

A Jordanian national who came to Britain seeking asylum has been handed a five-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting four women and girls during multiple journeys on London's Underground network.

Mohammad Al-Maani, 27, targeted his victims across different Tube lines between December 2022 and March 2023, with his youngest victim being just a teenage girl. The court heard how Al-Maani exploited crowded carriages to molest females while they were trapped and vulnerable.

Months of Predatory Behaviour

Al-Maani's campaign of abuse spanned several months, during which he repeatedly used the cover of rush hour crowds to assault women. Prosecutors described how he would position himself close to female passengers and engage in sexual touching without their consent.

The pattern of offending only ended when Transport for London investigators identified Al-Maani through CCTV footage and witness statements, leading to his arrest in spring 2023.

Youngest Victim Was a Teenager

Among the four females targeted by Al-Maani was a teenage girl, highlighting the predator's complete disregard for the age or vulnerability of his victims. All four women have been offered ongoing support services following the traumatic incidents.

During sentencing at Westminster Magistrates' Court, the judge emphasized the profound psychological impact such violations have on victims using public transport, which should be a safe space for all commuters.

Asylum Claimant Now Facing Deportation

Al-Maani had entered the UK legally and was in the process of seeking asylum at the time of his offences. Following his prison sentence, he is likely to face deportation proceedings back to Jordan.

Detective Inspector Sarah White of British Transport Police stated: "This sentencing sends a clear message that we will not tolerate sexual harassment or assault on the railway network. We encourage all victims to report such incidents immediately."

The case has reignited discussions about women's safety on public transport and the importance of surveillance and rapid police response to sexual offences in crowded spaces.
