Met Police Officers Jailed in Vile WhatsApp Sex Crimes Group Scandal
Met Police officers jailed over vile WhatsApp sex crimes group

Two serving Metropolitan Police officers have been handed prison sentences after their involvement in a shocking WhatsApp group dedicated to sharing vile and discriminatory content was uncovered.

Depraved Messages Exchanged While on Duty

PC Glynn Rees, 31, and PC James Evans, 28, both attached to the Met's Central West Command Unit, participated in a disturbing chat group where they shared:

  • Racist abuse targeting the Royal Family
  • Homophobic slurs and content
  • Deeply misogynistic material
  • Graphic sexual imagery
  • Threatening messages about women

The court heard how the officers exchanged these messages while actively serving as police officers, with some communications sent during their shifts.

Sentencing and Consequences

At Southwark Crown Court, Judge Deborah Taylor delivered stern sentences to both officers:

PC Glynn Rees received a 14-week prison term, while PC James Evans was sentenced to 16 weeks behind bars. Both officers have been suspended from duty and now face disciplinary proceedings that will likely end their police careers.

Judge Taylor condemned their actions, stating the messages were "grossly offensive" and represented a "significant fall from grace" for officers sworn to protect the public.

Broader Implications for Police Integrity

This case emerges amid growing concerns about police culture and standards within the Metropolitan Police. The force has faced multiple scandals in recent years, damaging public trust and raising questions about vetting procedures and internal oversight.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that professional standards investigations are ongoing and emphasized that such behaviour has no place in the organization.

The case has prompted renewed calls for stronger accountability measures and cultural reform within UK police forces to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
