A Metropolitan Police officer was subjected to a violent assault during protests at Canary Wharf on Friday, requiring medical attention for facial injuries.
The incident occurred during a demonstration in the heart of London's financial district, where a 24-year-old man allegedly punched the officer in the face. The attack left the officer with visible injuries that necessitated immediate medical treatment.
Police confirmed that Oliver Bel, 24, of no fixed address, has been charged in connection with the assault. He faces charges of assaulting an emergency worker and using threatening behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The suspect was apprehended following the incident and remained in police custody over the weekend. Bel appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court on Monday to answer the charges brought against him.
