A mystery gunman who recorded himself firing a round of bullets into a home before fleeing the scene in a Land Rover remains on the run. Victoria Police say three shots were fired at a house on Elmwood Place in Craigieburn, about 25km north of Melbourne, at approximately 1pm on October 24.
Details of the Incident
In CCTV footage, the man—dressed entirely in black and wearing a balaclava—is seen hopping out of a black Land Rover. With a handgun in one hand and a phone in the other, he films himself firing three shots before jumping back into the luxury vehicle and driving away. No one was inside the home at the time, and the incident was not reported until January, meaning ballistic analysis was not possible at the scene.
Police Response
Senior Constable Mitchell Jones described the act as reckless. 'There are plenty of people at their home, or are going home or staying home,' he said. 'I would describe it as reckless.' Police believe the targeted shooting was intended as a threat. Const Jones noted that police had not obtained the video recorded by the shooter. The vehicle could not be identified due to the low quality of the CCTV footage.
Community Impact
Const Jones said residents were 'quite shocked and concerned' by the targeted attack but have been assisting police. Authorities believe the shooting was an isolated incident. The search for the suspect continues.
