Armed police are searching for suspects after shots were fired in Leighton Buzzard, an incident that placed a nearby school in lockdown and triggered a pursuit into Dunstable.
Officers were alerted to reports of gunshots heard shortly before 3.30pm on Grebe Drive. A nearby lower school was placed in lockdown as a precaution for a short period, police said.
Armed Response and Pursuit
Armed officers were sent to the neighbourhood and later spotted a vehicle believed to be linked to the firearm incident. When the driver was told to stop and refused to pull over, a chase began, leading officers on a pursuit into Dunstable around 10 miles away before a crash.
Bedfordshire Police said: “The car came to a stop in Porz Avenue, Dunstable, when it collided with an unrelated vehicle. One man was treated at the scene for minor injuries.”
Ongoing Search
“The occupants of the suspect vehicle fled the scene on foot – a search of the area is currently underway,” the force added.
Porz Avenue remains closed between Boscombe Way and Lovatt Road roundabout while emergency services respond to the collision. Additional scene guards are in place in Grebe Drive and on the A505. Residents have been asked to avoid the area and seek alternative routes if driving.
Police said: “We understand this is a concerning incident but would like to reassure the public that a strong police presence will remain while initial enquiries take place.”
