Man rushed to hospital after being 'bottled' outside Glasgow shelter

A man has been rushed to hospital after being 'bottled' over the head outside a homeless shelter in Glasgow city centre. The incident unfolded on Wednesday night at around 11.55pm on Glassford Street. Emergency crews raced to the scene and the man was taken to hospital in an ambulance, however the nature of his injuries are not yet known.

CCTV captures the attack

Disturbing CCTV footage from the scene shows a man with a light blue and black tracksuit top holding what appears to be a glass bottle behind his back. A man wearing a cap and a blue jacket tries to walk away from him but he strikes him on the head with the weapon.

The footage cuts to the victim lying on the pavement as he is covered by a foil blanket and attended to by ambulance staff. A blood soaked tissue can be seen lying on the pavement above his head. The clip ends showing the man being wheeled into the back of an ambulance.

Shelter responds

Homeless Project Scotland, who run the shelter, released a statement online. A spokesperson said: "Nobody should have to endure abuse or violence. Our thoughts are with the victim as he recovers."

"We call for those responsible to be held accountable. Everyone who comes to us deserves to be treated with dignity and to feel safe."

Police investigation

Police Scotland confirmed they are following a 'positive line of enquiry.' A spokesperson for the force said: "Around 11.55pm on Wednesday, 14 October, 2026, we received a report of a man having been assaulted on Glassford Street, Glasgow."

"Emergency services attended, and the man was taken to hospital for assessment. Officers are following a positive line of enquiry."
