A 56-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison after police discovered a cache of foreign firearms and ammunition hidden in a shipping container at a marina in Dumbarton.
Robert Weir admitted to multiple firearms and drug offences at the High Court in Glasgow. Authorities found a loaded, shortened Russian shotgun, a loaded Japanese shotgun, two handguns with ammunition, and a quantity of cannabis inside the container he rented at Sandpoint Marina.

During the investigation, officers also recovered 1.7kg of cannabis with an estimated street value of £17,202 from Weir's home. He pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs as well as the firearms offences.
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) welcomed the sentence, emphasising the importance of removing these dangerous weapons from circulation. A spokesperson stated that the firearms had the potential to cause significant harm to the public.
Weir's sentencing concludes a case that highlighted the risks posed by illegally held weapons and drugs in the community.
