A 40-year-old man has been stabbed to death during a row at his flat in Maida Vale, north-west London, prompting a murder investigation. The incident occurred at around 9.40pm on Friday at Tollgate Gardens, where the victim had recently moved following the death of his grandmother.
Neighbours reported hearing 'screaming and shouting' from the flat before police and paramedics arrived. The man was treated at the scene for a stomach wound and other injuries but later died in hospital. Specialist family liaison officers from the Metropolitan Police are supporting his family.
An 89-year-old neighbour described the scene: 'There was screaming and shouting. I couldn't make out what was being said but it was very heated. Then all hell let loose with police everywhere, it was frightening really.' He described the victim as 'a decent guy' who had once warned him about leaving keys in the door.
Detectives are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage from the area. Westminster Council has deployed extra security patrols at Tollgate House. Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Denby said: 'We are working to establish the full circumstances around this incident. My thoughts are with the victim’s family at this unimaginably difficult time.'
