A 24-year-old man has died following a single-vehicle crash on the M74 in South Lanarkshire. Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway, approximately four miles from junction 13 near Abington, at around 9:17 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026.
Details of the Incident
Police received a report of a collision involving a silver Mazda 2. Upon arrival, officers found the driver, a 24-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support.
Road Closure and Investigation
The M74 northbound was closed between junctions 12 and 13 to allow for a collision investigation. The road reopened at approximately 11 a.m. the same day. Sergeant Ross Allison of Police Scotland said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died. We are carrying out a number of enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this crash and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened to contact police. In addition, anyone with dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist.”
Appeal for Information
Police are urging anyone with information or dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the crash to come forward. Witnesses can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0537 of July 10, 2026. The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
