A man in his 50s has died following a physical altercation at a holiday park in Cornwall, with police arresting a man in his 60s on suspicion of involvement. Devon and Cornwall Police were called to St Minver Holiday Park, near Wadebridge, at approximately 8pm on Saturday, 30 May, after reports of a fight between two men.
Incident Details
The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Treliske Hospital in Truro, where he sadly passed away on Monday, 1 June. A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent. He has since been released on bail until 21 August as enquiries continue.
Police Watchdog Investigation
The force has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to prior police contact with the deceased. The IOPC confirmed it is in the early stages of an investigation, examining interactions officers had with the man before he became unresponsive, as well as the medical care provided by police.
An IOPC spokesperson said: 'We can confirm we are independently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following an incident at a caravan park in Cornwall on 30 May 2026. Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the site near Wadebridge at 8pm after a man, aged in his 50s, was reported as behaving aggressively. Officers gave first aid and an ambulance was called at around 8.25pm. He was taken to hospital in Truro, where he sadly died on 1 June 2026.'

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson stated: 'Devon and Cornwall Police has made a mandatory referral to the IOPC following an incident in the Wadebridge area. A man in his 50s suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Treliske Hospital, where he died on 1 June. Officers arrested a man in his 60s on suspicion of wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent. He has been bailed until 21 August pending further enquiries. The matter is now subject to an independent investigation by the IOPC due to police contact, therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further.'
Holiday Park Response
A spokesperson for St Minver Holiday Park said: 'Our thoughts are with the deceased and his loved ones at this difficult time. We will provide assistance to the police where required.' Parkdean holiday resorts, which owns the park, has been contacted for comment.
Forensic teams and crime scene investigators were seen examining the scene in the aftermath of the incident, with a significant police presence remaining at the park.
