Man charged with murder after woman found dead in Westminster

A 22-year-old man is facing a murder charge after a woman was found dead on a quiet street in an affluent area of Westminster, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Metropolitan Police officers were called to Belgrave Street, a stone's throw from Hyde Park, at approximately 2:45 AM on Tuesday morning following reports of a concern for safety.

Upon arrival, they discovered the body of a woman, whose identity has not yet been formally released by authorities.

Swift Arrest and Charges

In a significant development in the case, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that Mykola Kukhar, 22, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene. He has since been charged with murder and is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court.

Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command have taken over the investigation and are working to establish the full circumstances leading to the woman's death.

Scene Sealed for Investigation

A large police cordon remained in place throughout Tuesday as forensic officers in white suits conducted a meticulous examination of the area. The scene, located in a typically peaceful and exclusive neighbourhood, presented a stark and unsettling contrast.

Local residents expressed their shock and disbelief, describing the event as "completely out of the ordinary" for the area.

The police have urged anyone with information, particularly those who may have dashcam or doorbell footage from the Belgrave Street area in the early hours of the morning, to come forward and assist their enquiries.
