A 25-year-old man is in a serious but stable condition after being set alight in a targeted attack at an apartment block in Warrawong, New South Wales, Australia. Emergency services were called to a unit on Todd Street at 9pm on Monday, May 11, following reports of a violent incident.
Police forced their way into the property and discovered the victim with severe burns to his face, chest, neck, and arms. According to NSW Police, the man had been doused with an accelerant before being set on fire, resulting in burns covering 50 per cent of his body.
Medical Response and Investigation
A medical helicopter crew was dispatched to the scene, where residents also assisted paramedics. The victim was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition. By Tuesday morning, his condition had improved to serious but stable.
NSW Police have described the attack as targeted, noting that officers are frequently called to the complex. The suspect, who allegedly set the man alight, fled the scene before authorities arrived. A crime scene has been established, and investigators are appealing for public assistance.
