A devastating fire has engulfed a former school building in Suffolk, with part of the structure collapsing as firefighters worked tirelessly through the night to bring the inferno under control.
Blaze at Parkway Middle School
Fire crews were called to the former Parkway Middle School in Haverhill at approximately 8:20 PM on Tuesday, May 12, after receiving more than 60 emergency calls from concerned members of the public. The blaze produced a massive plume of black smoke that towered above the town, visible for miles around.
Nine fire crews from Woodbridge, Orford, Haverhill, Wickhambrook, and Bury St Edmunds initially attended the scene. However, by 9:35 PM, three additional fire engines were required to assist in controlling the inferno, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.
Ongoing Efforts
Firefighters have been battling the flames throughout the night, and a specialist aerial appliance has been deployed to tackle the fire from above. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities have urged residents to avoid the area while emergency services continue their work.
