Police in Idaho have held a closed-door meeting with the grieving families of the four students brutally murdered in Moscow last November. The meeting comes as suspect Bryan Kohberger, a 29-year-old criminology PhD student, remains in custody awaiting trial.
Emotional Meeting Between Authorities and Families
Law enforcement officials travelled to Boise this week to privately brief relatives of the victims - Ethan Chapin, 20; Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Kaylee Goncalves, 21. The four University of Idaho students were found stabbed to death in their off-campus residence on 13 November 2022.
"This was an opportunity for us to provide updates directly to the families," a police spokesperson stated, while maintaining confidentiality about specific details shared during the sensitive discussions.
Kohberger's Legal Battle Continues
Bryan Kohberger, the prime suspect arrested in December 2022, faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. Prosecutors allege his DNA was found on a knife sheath at the crime scene, while defence attorneys argue the evidence is circumstantial.
The case has drawn national attention due to its brutal nature and the suspect's academic background in criminal psychology. Kohberger previously studied at Washington State University, just miles from the murder scene.
Community Still Reeling From Tragedy
Nearly a year after the shocking killings, the Moscow community continues to grapple with the aftermath. The university has implemented new safety measures, while memorials for the victims remain across campus.
Investigators maintain they are following all leads, though many questions about the motive and exact sequence of events remain unanswered as the case moves toward trial.
