Television presenter Kirsty Gallacher has been banned from driving and handed a financial penalty after pleading guilty to drink-driving in Central London. The Sky Sports host was stopped by police in the early hours of the morning while behind the wheel of her black Range Rover.
Early Morning Incident in Central London
The 47-year-old broadcaster was apprehended by Metropolitan Police officers near her residence in the affluent St John's Wood area. Tests revealed her alcohol level measured 60 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath, significantly exceeding the legal limit of 35 microgrammes.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
At Westminster Magistrates' Court, Gallacher received a 16-month driving prohibition and was ordered to pay £1,085 in total costs. The sum comprises a £615 fine, £85 in prosecution costs, and a £385 victim surcharge.
During the hearing, the court learned that police had observed the presenter driving erratically before pulling her over. Gallacher, who co-presented the final series of BBC's Gladiators and has worked extensively for Sky Sports, expressed remorse for her actions.
Personal Circumstances and Professional Impact
The mother-of-two had been dealing with significant personal stress at the time of the incident, having recently separated from her husband. Her legal representative emphasised that this was an isolated incident rather than indicative of habitual behaviour.
Gallacher joins a growing list of television personalities who have faced similar legal consequences, including fellow presenter Kate Garraway's husband, Derek Draper, who received a driving ban in 2019.
The conviction comes at a challenging time for the presenter, who continues to maintain her broadcasting commitments while managing personal difficulties.
