A police cordon remains in place at a house in Stockport following the discovery of 'harmful chemicals'. Police found the chemicals after officers carried out a raid on the property on Brown Lane in Heald Green on Friday (October 16).
Arrest and bail
A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of possessing hazardous chemicals. He was taken into custody for questioning. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said in an update that he has since been bailed while the investigation continues.
The Manchester Evening News understands a police cordon remains in place around the property, with investigations on the scene set to conclude today (Tuesday). It is understood that the chemicals, which have not been named, were legally purchased online.
Investigation details
The M.E.N understands concerns were raised over how they were stored, and the potential risks if they were mixed. The police probe is continuing. Officers carried out the raid on Friday before the scale of the operation escalated over the weekend. Bomb disposal experts descended on the scene, alongside experts from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Stockport Superintendent David Henthorne previously said police believed it to be an 'isolated incident'. He said: "We understand this incident may cause concern within the local community, however, at this time we believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public.
"We have a number of investigative opportunities to progress and are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the chemicals found. I would ask anyone who has information which may assist our investigation to get in touch with us. Information from the public could prove vital as we continue our enquiries."
