
The close-knit community of Cookstown, County Tyrone is in mourning today after the tragic death of local man Gary McCloy, described by heartbroken family and friends as a "gentle giant".
The 58-year-old, who stood at an impressive 6 feet 8 inches tall, passed away in hospital after being rescued from a devastating car fire that erupted on the Orritor Road last Thursday evening.
Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts
Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of a vehicle engulfed in flames. Firefighters battled the intense blaze to extract Mr McCloy from the wreckage before administering immediate life-saving treatment at the scene.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service confirmed they transported the critically injured man to Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where he fought for his life before sadly succumbing to his injuries.

Tributes have poured in for the much-loved local figure, with friends remembering his kind nature and towering presence in the community. His sister, Lorraine McCloy, led the emotional tributes, describing her brother as "the most gentle giant you could ever meet".
