A teenager kicked a police officer in the chest after a house party in Gateshead descended into chaos. Ava Gribbin, 18, had been drinking with friends at an address in Chopwell when a fight broke out and police were called.
Incident at Chopwell House Party
Newcastle Magistrates' Court heard that Gribbin took exception to being led away from the property by officers and became obstructive. Her behaviour then escalated, and she lashed out at one of the constables with her foot, hitting her in the chest, prosecutors said.
Prosecutor James Rickerby said police were called to the address in Chopwell after reports of a fight at the party. He added: "An officer spoke to the defendant. She thought the defendant was intoxicated and distressed. As a result, she was assisted in leaving the property."
Court Hearing and Sentencing
Rickerby continued: "At that point, the defendant became obstructive and attempted to flee. The officer detained her to stop her making off and to decelerate her behaviour but she continued to be obstructive and she kicked the officer in the chest, causing immediate pain but no physical injury."
Gribbin, of Hillcroft, Low Fell, Gateshead, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police constable. The court heard she has no previous convictions, claimed she had been assaulted at the party and briefly lost consciousness. She said she had no memory of kicking the officer but was sorry.
Fine and Costs Imposed
Magistrates fined the teenager £200 and ordered her to pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
