Gateshead Properties Closed Over Drug Use and Violence
Gateshead Properties Closed Over Drug Use and Violence

Northumbria Police have obtained closure orders on two properties in Gateshead after investigations into drug use, violence, and anti-social behaviour. The orders were granted by North Tyneside Magistrates Court last month, following complaints from residents.

Properties Targeted

The properties are located on Malory Place in central Gateshead and Brandon Gardens in the Springwell area. Police worked with partners to investigate reports from the community, leading to the closure order applications.

Closure Terms

Under the three-month closure orders, only the landlord, emergency workers, and local authority staff are permitted to enter. Anyone else attempting to access the properties risks arrest.

Police Statement

Sergeant Andrew Hyde of Northumbria Police said: “We’re pleased that after much investigative work over a period of a number of months, we’ve been able to secure closure orders for these problematic properties. Residents should not have to put up with the issues that were associated with these houses, which is why we’ve taken action to address the issues. We hope that now the properties have been made subject to the closure orders that those living nearby will be able to get on with their lives in peace and quiet.”

Community Policing

Hyde added: “This is a fantastic example of neighbourhood policing at its finest, working alongside our partners. Rest assured, we will always look to act on information supplied to us about ASB, drug-taking and violence in our communities.”

How to Report

Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activity via social media, live chat, or the police website. Those unable to use these methods can call 101.
