Five-Year-Old Dies After Playground Fall in Connecticut

A tragic incident unfolded in Harwinton, Connecticut, when a five-year-old girl died after striking her head on a playground at her residence. Olivia Videtto was playing in the play area of her home on Laurel Road, near Hartford, when she fell around 2 p.m. on Sunday. Emergency services airlifted her to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, as reported by WOWT.

Connecticut State Police stated that “nothing criminal has been found” in connection with the case. Her body has been transferred to the medical examiner’s office for further examination. In a statement, the police extended their “heartfelt condolences to the family and the Harwinton community.”

First Selectman Michael R. Criss expressed the community’s grief, saying, “There are no words that can adequately express the sorrow felt by our community. Olivia’s loss is being felt deeply by her family, friends, classmates, teachers, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.”

State Senator Paul Honig also offered his condolences, remarking, “Words are insufficient to describe the magnitude of this loss. Olivia was part of our community, and her loss leaves a mark on all of Harwinton.”

Olivia was a kindergarten student at Harwinton Consolidated School. Superintendent Fran Thompson described her as a bright and well-loved student. “Everybody loved her. She was just a true joy and embodied the spirit of the school and Region 10,” he told CT Insider. She had attended the school for three years, including preschool and kindergarten. Olivia loved learning and being with her classmates and teachers. She was also a member of the PawPals club, a service group that helps the community.
