A quick-thinking father has been hailed a hero after protecting his family during a terrifying home invasion that saw masked criminals armed with knives and a hammer storm their Essex property.
The harrowing incident unfolded around 10:30 PM on Thursday when three intruders forced their way into the family home in Basildon. The father, who wishes to remain anonymous, immediately sprang into action upon hearing the commotion.
Swift Action Saves Family
"I heard the door come off its hinges and knew we were in serious danger," the father recounted. "My first instinct was to get my family to safety."
While his wife desperately called 999, the brave parent rushed his three children into the bathroom, barricading the door with his own body as the violent thieves ransacked their home.
The intruders, described as wearing black balaclavas and dark clothing, threatened the family while systematically searching the property for valuables.
Violent Threats and Stolen Goods
"They were shouting threats, demanding we come out while brandishing weapons," the father described. "I could hear them smashing things and tearing the place apart."
The criminals made off with several high-value items including jewellery, cash, and the family car - a black Audi S3 - which was later recovered by police in the Laindon area.
Essex Police have launched a full investigation into the aggravated burglary and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A police spokesperson confirmed: "We are investigating an aggravated burglary in Basildon where three masked men entered a property armed with weapons. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, but the victims are understandably traumatised."
Neighbours expressed shock at the violent nature of the crime in what they described as typically a "quiet family area."
The heroic father emphasised the importance of home security and trusting one's instincts in emergency situations, stating that his priority was always his family's safety above material possessions.
