Former Solicitor Evades Capture Despite Multiple Arrest Warrants

Kerry Ann Stevens, a 40-year-old ex-solicitor, continues to evade authorities despite four active warrants for her arrest. Stevens has failed to appear at court on at least nine separate occasions in connection with a series of alleged dine-and-dash incidents.

Fresh Police Appeal with New Mugshot Released

Essex Police launched a renewed public appeal on Thursday, February 19, releasing an updated mugshot of Stevens. The force is actively seeking information regarding her whereabouts as she remains at large.

"We're looking for Kerry Stevens, 40, in connection with outstanding warrants for failure to appear at court," stated an Essex Police spokesperson. "Stevens is described as around 5ft 2ins in height, with blonde hair and usually wearing big glasses. She has links to the Shoebury and Westcliff areas."

Partner's Sentencing Hearing Adjourned

The developments emerged as Stevens' partner, 39-year-old Daniel Alani, was scheduled for sentencing at Ipswich Crown Court. However, the hearing was adjourned after Alani failed to attend. The court accepted he had a sufficient reason for his absence and did not issue a warrant for his arrest.

Alani has pleaded guilty to multiple charges including:

  • Theft
  • Theft from a shop
  • Eight counts of making off without payment

His sentencing is now listed for Thursday, February 26.

Charges and Allegations

Stevens faces serious criminal charges including:

  1. Eleven counts of making off without payment
  2. One count of theft from a shop

The former solicitor denies all offences and is due to face trial later this year. Both Stevens and Alani, previously of the Southend area, were first named locally after allegedly targeting restaurants and taxi firms. The pair are accused of attempting to leave establishments without paying bills and cab fares.

Police Urge Public Assistance

Essex Police have provided multiple channels for the public to share information about Stevens' whereabouts:

  • Submit a report through the Essex Police website
  • Use the online Live Chat service available 24/7
  • Call 101 with any relevant information

"If you've seen her, or have any information as to her whereabouts, please get in touch," urged the police spokesperson. The force emphasized that any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, could prove crucial in locating the wanted individual.

The case highlights ongoing challenges in ensuring court appearances for individuals facing multiple charges, particularly when they have professional backgrounds that might otherwise suggest compliance with legal processes.
