The Metropolitan Police have launched a comprehensive investigation after the tragic discovery of an 80-year-old man found deceased in his Westminster flat.
Emergency services were called to the residential property in the heart of London on Tuesday morning following concerns for the welfare of the elderly resident. Despite the rapid response, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Investigation Underway
Scotland Yard has confirmed that the death is currently being treated as unexplained, with officers conducting door-to-door enquiries and forensic examinations at the property. A police cordon remains in place as detectives work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated: "We were called at approximately 10:30am on Tuesday to reports of concerns for the welfare of a resident at a property in Westminster. Officers attended and found the body of an 80-year-old man. His next of kin have been informed."
Community in Shock
Neighbours in the typically quiet Westminster street expressed their shock and sadness at the incident. One local resident described the area as "usually very peaceful" and expressed concern for the wellbeing of elderly residents living alone.
The London Ambulance Service confirmed they attended the scene alongside police colleagues, but unfortunately the man could not be saved.
As the investigation continues, police are appealing for anyone with information that could assist their enquiries to come forward. The identity of the deceased man has not yet been formally released pending completion of formal identification procedures.
