Disturbing CCTV footage has emerged capturing the final moments of a dog walker being chased by a masked gang through a residential street in broad daylight, shortly before he was fatally stabbed.
The victim, named locally as 41-year-old Simon Shotton, was pursued by three individuals wearing balaclavas on Mortham Street in Walthamstow, northeast London, at approximately 3:45 PM on Tuesday.
The Harrowing Chase
The video evidence shows Mr. Shotton running for his life while clutching his small terrier-type dog, which remarkably survived the attack. The assailants, dressed entirely in black and with their faces concealed, are seen giving chase in what detectives believe was a targeted attack.
Minutes after this pursuit was captured, the victim was discovered with multiple stab wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency services, including air ambulance medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Community in Shock
The murder has sent shockwaves through the quiet neighbourhood, with residents expressing horror at the brutal nature of the daytime attack. Local shopkeepers and neighbours described the area as typically peaceful, making the violence even more alarming.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams, leading the investigation, stated: "This appears to be a targeted attack, and we are pursuing several lines of enquiry. The brazenness of conducting such an attack in the afternoon is particularly concerning."
Police Appeal for Witnesses
The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation and are urgently appealing for witnesses. Officers are conducting door-to-door enquiries and reviewing additional CCTV footage from the surrounding area.
Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made thus far. A dedicated incident room has been established, and forensic teams continue to examine the crime scene for evidence.
